SBWN has not only been a networking group for women business owners, employees, retirees and homemakers but a supporter of many causes, beginning in 1988 at a holiday meeting where members assembled holiday gift packets for SLO Women’s Shelter (Stand Strong, Rise). From 1988 to 2019 over $30,000 was raised at the Holiday Dinner & Benefit along with other fundraising events.
In 2000 SBWN awarded its first two scholarships of $75 each which began the Cuesta College Female Reentry Student Scholarship Program. Since those first two scholarships we have awarded 115 scholarships to support local women in their decision to finish a degree for a total of over $64,900. This has become our signature fundraising effort and focus!
Through the years SBWN has supported other organizations and causes, such as Los Osos/Baywood Park Chamber of Commerce, Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce, Commission on the Status of Women, food banks, blood drives and running a voting poll since 2012.
South Bay Women’s Network continues to support women’s issues through community outreach and education. We aim to empower women by providing opportunities for volunteering and learning. Our network helps women build both professional and personal connections. SBWN is a welcoming space where women can find mentorship, friendship, and support without judgment. Our members come from many backgrounds, not just business. Over the years, we’ve welcomed current and retired business owners, entrepreneurs, and women involved in volunteer work and mentoring. We want to grow our group by inviting people who care about community, women’s issues, volunteering, local businesses, and mentoring women of all ages and backgrounds. Our events feature speakers who discuss different aspects of women’s lives. Men are also welcome to attend. If you care about empowering women and want to support our cause, we invite you to join the South Bay Women’s Network.
Meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6 pm in Morro Bay. The board meets on the last Tuesday of the month.
